Ambassador Yojna Patel joined India’s diplomatic
service (the Indian Foreign Service) in 2000. She has a Post Graduate degree in
English Literature and speaks several Indian languages [including her mother tongue
Hindi] and Russian.
She has diverse diplomatic experience in her 23 years
of diplomatic service, including in multilateral work at SAARC, UNESCO and
SCO.
Before taking over her current assignment in August
2023, Ambassador Yojna Patel was Joint Secretary and National Coordinator (Shanghai
Cooperation Organisation) in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from
2020- 2023.
She has previously served at the Indian Embassy in
Moscow [2001-2002]; St. Petersburg [2003-2004]; Bishkek [2004-2007]; Counsellor at
Permanent Mission of India to UNESCO , Paris [2010-2013]; Deputy Chief of Mission in
Kyiv [2013-2016] and Minister/ Deputy Chief of Mission in Moscow (2016-2019).
Ambassador Yojna Patel is married to late Pradeep Kumar
Patel. The couple have a son and daughter.
