Funding support to Moldova

As requested by the Government of Moldova, India will extend a funding support of US$ 1,081,500 from the India-UN Development Partnership Fund for the project, namely, “moving from a traditional to a register-based statistical system, resilient to humanitarian and emergency shocks”.

The project aims to address key challenges of data system in Moldova by shifting the focus from traditional data collection modalities to modern ones and conducting targeted longitudinal studies to better understand triggering factors of demographic changes in the country. This entails mapping and assessment of the available registers administrative micro-data; development of the legal framework to support the expansion of the information system; development and integration of the health, socio-economic and education modules; South-South cooperation exchanges, including with India.

The project’s outcomes include providing real-time data on demographic changes and social statistics; more accountable and transparent, human rights based and gender responsive governance. This will also make the system resilient to humanitarian and emergency shocks, such as the refugee crisis and COVID-19 pandemic and able to provide real-time data on demographic changes and social statistics. The project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months.

The project will address SDG 17 (Revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development).

The India-UN Development Partnership Fund, established by Government of India in June 2017, provides support to projects in developing countries that aim to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation is the designated Fund manager.

The Permanent Representative of India Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said, “The project and India’s contribution is reflective of India’s commitment to further advance the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.”
